Day 1: Cairo / Fayoum Oasis / Valley of Whales
Early departure to the Fayoum Oasis. Breakfast at the oasis and visit of Wadi Al-Hitan (litterarly : Valley of Whales). This site is the most major site worldwide, clearly showing one of the major changes in the history of life on Earth : the evolution of whales.
Some 40-41 million years ago, Egypt was submerged under a huge ocean. Today's desert has kept the traces of that period, including several skeletons of whales discovered on the site.
The site is today a protected area and a natural heritage added to UNESCO in 2005, as worldwide heritage.
We continue our visit till reaching the Magic Lake, so-called because it is flanked on its four sides by mountains and sand dunes. The colour of its waters change when the sun shines on either sides.
A marvellous site, superb landscapes and the vastness of the desert make it a must-see to be discovered!
Day 2 : Tunis Village / Cairo
Tunis Village, created during the sixties, became famous with the arrival in the 80's of Evelyne Porret, a swiss lady potter, who established her own pottery workshop along with her husband.
This workshop was rapidly transformed into a pottery school to teach and empower kids of surrounding area to produce pottery objects, and to encourage them in this craft. Till today, the village children still practice the art of pottery.
The calm and quiet Nature allows relaxation while wandering in the pathways of the village, meeting its welcoming inhabitants, and enjoying the sight of the pretty traditional houses. This village abunds in trees and shrubs, and is one of the most agreable places of the country!
